In mechanical engineering, first of all it is important to know about hand tools. Some of the names and functions of equipment required to do work in a workshop are given below-

1. Hammer

A hammer is a hand-tool that is needed and known to all. It is used to hit an object or place. Such as (ballpin, straight pin, crosspin, lady, wooden, plastic) hammer etc.

2. Punch

Punches are also used to mark high-low surfaces, to make marks on metal surfaces. Different types of screws include center punch, drive screw, drift screw, automotive center screw, etc.

3. Pliers

Pliers are used to hold something firmly in place, to cut electrical wires. Nose pliers, cutting pliers, combination pliers.

04. Spanner

Spanners are commonly used to loosen and tighten nut-bolts. There are generally two types of spanners. Single-edged spanner and double-edged spanner (pictured).

05. Screw-driver

Drive means driving. It is called a screwdriver because a screw can be driven with the help of a screwdriver. This type of driver is used for opening and inserting the screw. Among the different types of screwdrivers, flat, star (Phillips), double-headed screwdrivers are noteworthy. ,

06. Filler Gauge

Filler gauges are commonly used to measure the space or clearance between two objects. It consists of several pages. Pages are assigned different measurement numbers according to thickness.

07. File

The desired shape is given to the object by smoothing the metal surface with a file. Files of types like flat, round, square, triangular etc. are used.

08. Hand-drill

Hand drills are generally used for making small holes. Such hand drills are widely used for drilling holes in wood and walls.

09. Vice

A vice is used to hold the workpiece firmly in place.

10.Tap

Nuts or threads are threaded inside the pipe with tabs. There are four types. Hand Tab, Boiler Tab, Pipe Tab and Machine Screw Tab.

The die is used to punch a screw or thread on the exterior of a bolt and pipe. Dies are of different sizes, such as 2, 1.5, 1, 0.5, 0.25 etc. It is used by setting the handle or machine.

11. Malet

The mallet is generally used to strike large flexible objects. Sheet metal work, the flat surface of sheet metal, is used to flatten the outer surface of copper tubes. Particularly used to strike tube bending springs.

12. Steel Rule

Steel rulers are used to layout and set lengths, calipers and dividers. It is marked in inches and centimeters.

13. Slide Calipers

Vernier slide calipers are a measuring instrument through which the length, width, height, inner and outer diameter of spherical objects can be measured very accurately. It has two scales.

14. Calipers

There are two types of these calipers. One out-sight and the other in-sight calipers. Out-sight calipers measure the outer diameter and depth of the object and in-sight calipers measure the object's internal diameter and slot depth.

15. Screw Pitch Gauge

Screw-pitch gauges are used to measure and measure the pitch of threads. The number of threads per inch can be measured with a screwpitch gauge.

16. Adjustable Range

Adjustable range is used to hold, loosen and tighten a variety of nuts and bolts. It can be adjusted according to the size of nuts and bolts.
