What is Civil Engineering?

Definition: The engineering science of design, construction, and maintenance.

Engineering is called the mother of knowledge. The oldest, largest and synthesis of all engineering knowledge.

What does a Civil Engineer or Architect do?

A civil engineer is responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of works. Civil engineers do survey work, provide technical reports and even work as project managers.

Scope of Civil Engineer:

As the scope of civil engineering has expanded over time, many branches have emerged. His notable areas are structural, geotechnical, transportation, hydraulic, environmental etc.

Significance and Application of Civil Engineer:

The importance of civil engineer is increasing with time. Currently he also works on fire control. They also serve to reduce fire damage. The role of the civil engineer was instrumental in the construction of the ancient Egyptian pyramids or roads. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering science. Also exposed to various methods of purifying water, air and soil.

Major Branches of Civil Engineering:

There are 7 main branches of civil engineering which are briefly discussed below

What is Structural Engineering?

This branch is properly designed by mixing cement, sand, reinforcing, wood and other materials to protect the house, hotel, park, bridge, building etc. from its load from the effects of wind, water, earthquake, temperature etc. or external load resistance. Work

What is Construction Engineering?

This section discusses how to build a structure. The use of money, lack of time, supply of essential commodities-machinery etc., construction of infrastructure is done in the science branch.

What is Environmental Engineering?

The function of this branch is to prevent pollution of the environment i.e. air and water, purification etc. Today it is an important branch. This branch discusses the supply of clean water, removal and purification of waste, sewage etc.

What is Geotechnical Engineering?

It is used in almost all civil engineering branches. Because most of the structures are located on the ground. This branch is concerned with the effect of composition on soil or rock and their properties. Its civil engineering branch deals with underground leakage, earthquake impact, stability etc. Partial design of embankments, retaining walls, foundations etc. is done through this branch.

What is Water Resources Engineering?

As we all know that water is very important in our life, it is also true that it is a very common thing. This water again puts us to death. We know this too. Water resources engineering deals with the physical properties of water. Discussion and design on flood, urban-industrial-irrigation water supply, river erosion prevention, river management etc. This branch deals with hydraulic power, dams, canals, floods etc.

What is Transportation Engineering?

The characteristics or qualities of a society depend on its communication system. The development of any society is greatly influenced by this communication system. Transportation engineering deals with the research, design, problems and solutions of transportation systems for people, goods etc. This branch works on more transportation facilities on fewer roads, reducing accidents, reducing cost etc.

Urbanization and town planning are essentially group work. There is research in this branch on what a group or alliance might look like and how to put it together.

There are 6 main branches of civil engineering which are briefly discussed below.

Structural Engineering: Proper design of houses, hotels, parks, bridges, buildings, etc., with the ability to self-load or withstand external loads from the effects of wind, water, earthquake, temperature, etc., using cement, sand. , revitalization, wood, and other materials. This is the work of this branch.

Environmental Engineering: This branch deals with the prevention, purification, etc. of the environment i.e. pollution of air and water. Today it is an important branch. This branch discusses the supply of clean water, removal and purification of waste, sewage etc.

Geotechnical Engineering: It is used in almost all civil engineering branches. Because most of the structures are located on the ground. This branch is concerned with the effect of composition on soil or rock and their properties. Its civil engineering branch deals with underground leakage, earthquake impact, stability etc. Partial design of embankments, retaining walls, foundations etc. is done through this branch.

Water Resources Engineering: As we all know that water is very important in our life, it is also very common. This water again puts us to death. We know this too. Water resources engineering deals with the physical condition of water. Flooding, urban-industrial-irrigation water supply, river erosion prevention, river management etc. have been discussed and designed. This branch deals with hydraulic power, dams, canals, floods etc.

Transport Engineering: The characteristics or qualities of a society depend on its communication system. The development of any society is greatly influenced by this communication system. Transportation engineering deals with the research, design, problems and solutions of transportation systems for people, goods etc. This branch deals with more transportation facilities on minor roads, reduction in accidents, cost reduction etc.

Construction Engineering: This branch deals with the construction of structure. The use of money, lack of time, supply of essential commodities-machinery etc., work is done in the branch of construction methodology.

  • Technology Lessons - Where is Engineering Taught?
  • Jadavpur University

The Engineering Department of Jadavpur University is the best in the state except IITs Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics & Instrumental Engineering, Information Technology, Food Technology, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Power Engineering, Printing Engineering, Production Engineering etc. are taught.

  • Phone Number: 033 23359349
  • Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shivpur (BESU)

This university ranks after Jadavpur in engineering education. Like Jadavpur, various disciplines of engineering are taught here. However, the civil engineering department of Besur has the highest demand for admission.

  • private engineering college
  • Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) Kolkata

There are three categories of Engineering Information Technology, Electronics & Communication and Computer Science Admission is on the basis of Joint Admission Ranking. College officials have claimed on the website that after passing engineering from here, job in IBM, Microsoft, Infosys, Asian Paints etc. have opportunities. According to officials, there are various facilities for pursuing engineering courses. For example, students get opportunities to participate in audio-visual laboratories, project seminars, four-year engineering courses from the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Kolkata. But 3 lakh 37 thousand rupees will be spent. However, there is an option to pay the tuition fee in installments. Rs.69,500 will be paid as course fee in the first semester. The cost of the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth semesters is Rs.36,500, Rs.37,500, Rs.37,500 respectively. Rs.38,500, Rs.38,500, Rs.39,500 and Rs.39,500.

  • Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HIT)

A total of nine engineering disciplines taught in this college are Applied and Instrumental Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology. Students are admitted here according to the rank of Joint Entrance Examination after high school but Diploma Engineers also have a chance to get admission here they can take admission in second year of B.Tech course after passing the examination first for admission in heritage The tuition fee of the semester is Rs 65,700. In the second semester, the tuition fee is 36 thousand. The cost of the third and fourth semester is Rs 37,000 per semester. Similarly, the tuition fee of the fifth and sixth semester will be Rs 38 thousand for the seventh and eighth semester, it will cost Rs 39 thousand if If you want to get the housing benefit, then you have to pay an additional three and a half thousand per month. According to the college officials, various Indian and multinational organizations regularly come here for 'campus interviews'. As a result, students get jobs before passing engineering. The authorities also invite various corporate bodies to the college for imparting training to the students.
